There was so much talk out there about the importance of ‘listening to the customer’ - but I could see very few businesses actually doing that. Ideas need time before they can ignite into something more.įor me, I found that I was becoming increasingly frustrated by the state of customer communications on the internet. Keep this idea in the forefront of your mind, sleep on it a few nights and don’t let any perception of the arduous road ahead dissuade you from giving your idea the space it needs to flourish. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll find your best ideas come from addressing a personal dissatisfaction or frustration - something that you’ve noticed is missing in your day-to-day life. The idea doesn’t need to be fully formed - just a thought about how something can be improved, or how things could be different. Of course, the first step to launching a startup is to have an idea. But we believe there are a few guiding principles that will set you on the right track for success. Of course, every tech startup is completely unique, and the journey to launch will look and feel very different for everyone. Today, I want to share with you exactly how we got to where we are today - in the hope that it might inspire you to begin making your vision a reality too. We’ve also been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received so far from our early adopters more than a hundred brands, teachers, marketers and podcasters looking to start listening to and engaging their customers, website visitors and followers through voice. By the end of our launch day yesterday, we were beyond excited to be voted #1 Product of the Day on Product Hunt - which we fully recognise is a huge honour for any new tech startup! The success we’ve seen already has been exciting, humbling and motivating. Fast-forward many months, and my growing team and I have just launched our first product, Vox: the online voice messaging platform for business. We hope you like it - feel free to send suggestions for features to And if you are interested in applying no-code ML to your product, check us out at Akkio.Isn’t it crazy how much can change in a year?Īround this time in 2019, I was sitting at my desk mulling over how I could potentially bring voice to the internet. Your dashboard page is unique to your product - so you can also grab the link at the top and share it on social media! Just click the Twitter button to share your product launch dashboard! Activate your community so they can cheer you on and help spread the word when you need that extra awareness boost. The dashboard is easily shareable with your supporters. We turn down the chart’s competitive noise and show you your performance and the key metrics you need to hit to climb the ranks and win the war. We also wanted a product-specific dashboard where we could see more detailed and actionable metrics. By reverse engineering from prior performance and results, the model can account for the under-the-cover weightings that impact your final position. This model is trained on past performance and final placement outcomes - so it captures a bunch of intangible aspects of the Product Hunt ranking algorithm. We update the model every minute - so you can get a sense of where you will finish the day given your current metrics as well as those of the “competition.” We trained a machine learning model to forecast the end-of-day ranking given the current rank and trajectory. We realized that we could apply the Akkio machine learning engine to the problem. We wanted a way to know if we would eventually achieve first place (we got there right before midnight Pacific Time). We watched ourselves pull into first place on the votes chart, but our rank remained #2 throughout the afternoon and early evening. Inspired by the original Product Wars, we found ourselves wanting more actionable information during the launch of Akkio. The best new way to monitor your launch day on Product Hunt!
